LENA Start
What is LENA Start?
LENA Start is an evidence-based community program designed to engage families and help them learn how to increase conversation with their children during the first few years of life. Interactive talk — specifically back-and-forth conversation — has been proven to be a key factor in healthy early brain development. Yet most families don’t know how much they’re talking to or with their children.
During LENA Start, families use LENA’s patented “talk pedometer” technology to measure their child’s language environment. Over the course of 10 weekly sessions that can be delivered virtually or in person, families explore this data in the form of personalized, actionable feedback reports, discussing research-based strategies with their peers to increase the quality and quantity of talk at home.
¿Qué es LENA Start?
LENA Start es un programa comunitario basado en evidencia diseñado para involucrar a las familias y ayudarlas a aprender cómo aumentar la conversación con sus hijos durante los primeros años de vida. Charla interactiva, específicamente conversación de ida y vuelta — ha demostrado ser un factor clave en el desarrollo saludable del cerebro temprano. Sin embargo, la mayoría de las familias no saben cuánto están hablando con sus hijos.
Durante LENA Start, las familias usan el sistema patentado de LENAtecnología de “hablar podómetro” para medir el entorno lingüístico de su hijo. En el transcurso de 10 sesiones semanales que se pueden impartir virtualmente o en persona, las familias exploran estos datos en forma de informes de retroalimentación procesables y personalizados, discutiendo estrategias basadas en la investigación con sus compañeros para aumentar la cantidad de conversaciones en el hogar.
