ReadPlayTalk is Mesquite ISD's research-based, community supported initiative to champion early childhood literacy among its students.

Limited exposure to vocabulary can cause a child to enter kindergarten up to two years behind his or her peers. Mesquite ISD is committed to ensuring that our students enter kindergarten with a solid pre-reading foundation and are successfully reading on grade level by third grade.

Through MISD teacher-designed strategies and our volunteer, business and campus partnerships, we are encouraging parents and relatives to read, play and talk with their children from birth and beyond!

A child's educational foundation begins at birth. And the secret to a strong foundation is as simple as READ PLAY TALK.

A 2012 study by the Brookings Institution’s Social Genome Project noted that fewer than half of children from poverty are ready for school at age 5, compared to 75% of their peers not from poverty. We want to impact those numbers for the good. It is Mesquite ISD's focused initiative that a child's family income level should not put a child at a reading deficit among his peers. Partnering with the community and families, we are making positive strides.
